about the candidate

My name is Nikki (Nicole) Slowinski and I am excited to be a candidate for the District 205 School Board.

I moved to Elmhurst in 2007 with my husband, drawn to the strong community and exceptional schools. I am the proud stepmother of two York High School graduates, and the mother of a son at Churchville Middle School, and daughter at Emerson Elementary School.

From an early age, I’ve been guided by two core values: 1) the importance of education and 2) the value of giving back.

These principles have shaped every stage in my life, including:

  • Volunteering at schools within under-served communities

  • Earning my degree in education

  • Helping to build a school in Haiti

  • Gaining professional experience in human resources, including adult learning & development, talent management, and succession planning

  • Actively participating and holding leadership roles within the PTA

These experiences have inspired me to run for the School Board, where I hope to use both my core values and professional experiences to continue making a difference in our community.

As a committed member of the Elmhurst community and the PTA, I bring a unique blend of personal dedication and professional expertise to this role. My background in HR includes roles focused on process improvement, education and organizational effectiveness. This equips me to make collaborative, effective and solution-focused decisions for our schools.

I am committed to ensuring access to high quality educational resources for all; being a responsible steward of community resources and support; and advancing excellence in academics.

I look forward to the opportunity to serve on the School Board, to ensure continued success of District 205.
